Sport Premium

The Primary PE and sport premium was introduced in March 2013 to improve the provision of physical education and school sport in primary schools across England.

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of their Physical Education, physical activity and sport and aim to increase the activity levels of every child. The funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport.

The funding is allocated directly to primary schools and means it may only be spent on improving the provision of PE and sport in schools. All schools with 17 or more primary-aged pupils between the ages of 5-11 on roll will receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus an additional premium of £5 per pupil. The money spent is reported each year on each school`s website.

At Epping Upland we use the money in the following ways:

To help fund the salary of a sports coach who specifically works on a Sports SEAL programme with identified pupils.
To pay for places for identified pupils to attend charged before or after school clubs.
To purchase and maintain sports equipment for the use of PE lessons, lunchtmes, breaktimes and after school clubs. Sport Premium 2025/2026
